Following the money: What do George Soros, the ADL and the military–industrial complex have in common?
Endless war, endless riots
A recent article in the Washington Post titled McCain’s political heirs carry on his fight against Trumpian isolationism discusses the work of the McCain Institute:
“The late senator’s institute has taken the lead among outside groups trying to keep his worldview relevant, especially in Ukraine’s fight against Russia”.
What was that worldview? McCain was one of the loudest cheerleaders of the Iraq war, and every other American war you can think of.
In a long list of donors to the incredibly well-funded McCain Institute, there are some names you would expect. The bellicose foreign policy promoted by the Institute has attracted the largesse of weapons manufacturers Raytheon and Northrop Grumman.
Other names are more surprising. The Open Society Foundation is a major funder. George Soros is also listed separately as an individual donor. The liberal fact-checking website Snopes judged the claim “Did George Soros Fund Ferguson Protests and Black Lives Matter?” to be partly true:
“A grantmaking network founded by George Soros provided funding to some groups that engaged in Ferguson-related protest activities.”
The Tides Foundation, a key partner of Black Lives Matter, has also funneled money to the McCain Institute. The same organisations that fund propaganda for conflict abroad also fund riots at home.
The ADL (Anti-Defamation League) is also on the list.
As I’ve documented so often on this blog, American imperialism and the social justice movement have become a deeply interlinked chimera.
